Part 2 ⬇️

I came home from the hospital with our newborn daughter still in my arms.

My stitches were fresh.

I could barely walk.

The key didn't work.

I stood at my own front door for ten minutes before my neighbor Ruth came out and told me what had happened.

My mother-in-law, Diane, had called a locksmith the morning after I delivered.

She told him — and everyone on the street — that I had walked out on the family and wasn't coming back.

I called my husband, Daniel.

He didn't answer.

I called again.

Nothing.

Then Diane opened the door herself.

She looked at the baby, then at me, and said, "You have no business being here anymore."

I was still bleeding.

My daughter was three days old.

I didn't argue.

I didn't cry.

I just reached into my hospital bag and pulled out a single document.
